TAKE ACTION - Our Green Ribbon Campaign

Please tie GREEN ribbons to the trees slated for cutting. (see home page attachment SaveTrees PDF of the 17 trees slated for cutting.)

We are borrowing the yellow ribbon tradition of honoring, remembering and wishing well that is commonly used for those lost or in service far from home. The intention of this action is to create an artful, beautiful display on each targeted tree. We want to raise awareness that removal of the trees is eminent and to provide citizens with an opportunity to protest peacefully.

Please use GREEN ribbons. You can fabricate them, if you like, from plant materials, such as strings of leaves, or vines. Be creative, imaginative.

Writing a personal message on your ribbon will underscore that we are citizens of this city. This park belongs to the community. We pay for our parks and we are also very proud of our city’s commitment to sustainability and green practices. Here are some suggested messages for the ribbons that stress the importance of these mature trees.

Parks Department is watching and will remove these symbols of our love and respect. Make a commitment to repeat the process. Make it a ritual to stop by every day and add another ribbon to at least one of the 17 trees or the fence that surrounds the park.

Share this idea with others and invite them to participate. Help watch for the cutting event to begin, be prepared to notify your e-mail chain.

Look for signs in the windows of neighborhood businesses. Many have green ribbon available to share with you.

ACTIONS MUST BE PEACEFUL AND RESPECTFUL OF AUTHORITY
